Ramgopal, Mahottari – People of Ramgopal Municipality in Mahottari, a district in the Province 2, are likely to get all services relating to cancer within their locality.

A cancer center (hospital) has come into operation through combined efforts among the Binayatara Foundation America, Binayatara Cancer Trust Nepal and the Municipality with the objective of ensuring locals’ access to ‘quality’ health services.

Municipality mayor Ashok Kumar Mandal, deputy mayor Sita Devi and senior oncologist and surgeon Rakesh Shah inaugurated the center services recently.

The center claims that its services especially for those related to cancer are of quality and they are available at an affordable price, according to Dr Shah. Currently, the facility avails in-patient department, pathology and radiology services at its rented building and surgery, chemotherapy and other sorts of services will be added gradually.

The center is considered as the first cancer facility in the entire province. Earlier, either Chitwan or Dharan was the nearest accessible location for treatment for cancer patients in the district and from its neighbouring districts Siraha, Saptari and Dhanusha . Especially oncologists Dr Binay Shah and Dr Rakesh worked together to materalise the people’s dream of getting a cancer treatment facility at their hometown and its services will be upgraded gradually.

The municipality has provided around 52 ropanis of land to the Trust to further develop infrastructure required to operate the center efficiently and develop it into an advanced facility.

The center is likely to get all required infrastructure by the next four years. The foundation and the trust own the responsibilities for the development of infrastructure, management of pathology and human resources while the Municipality will monitor all these works and coordinate in this regard.   (RSS)
