Baitedi– More than two hundred mothers who gave birth to a daughter were honoured by the Dogadakedar rural municipality.

In the previous fiscal year 2017/18, the rural municipality provided an incentive of Rs. 1,000 each to 212 new mothers with daughters, according to health coordinator Narendra Nath. The initiative began a year ago and the Rs. 1,000 incentive allowance is in addition to the Rs. 1,000 provided by the government for women giving birth at health centres.

“We began this initiative with the objective of putting an end to discrimination between a son and a daughter,” Vice-chair of the rural municipality Parbati Karki said. It is also intended to give a message to the society that sons and daughters are equal.

Dogadakedar is the first rural municipality of Baitedi district to begin this noble initiative. RSS
