Kathmandu, July 3: Minister for Agriculture, Land Management and Cooperatives Chakra Pani Khanal has clarified that harmful chemical urea (manufactured with anhydrous ammonia) was not found in the milk and dairy products as reported in the media recently.
Speaking at an interaction organized by Reporter’s Club Nepal in the capital Tuesday, Minister argued that some media created illusion by disseminating the news that chemical contaminants such as washing soda and detergent chemicals were adulterated in milk products. It was baseless as it was disseminated before the lab report, Minister added.
Minister Khanal shared that caustic soda was found in 42 milk collection centres and coliform in 39 centres.
It was found that Bicarbonate, Sodium Hydroxide (Caustic soda) and Sodium Carbonate were used as neutralizer in the milk products.
