May 16, 2018-Nepali leg spinning sensation Sandeep Lamichhane has been named in the ICC World XI to play a special fund raising Twenty 20 match against West Indies in Lord’s Cricket Ground in St John’s Wood in London on May 31.

International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday said that Lamichhane has also been named in the World XI team.

The fund collected from the match would be donated for the restoration of the Jamesh Ronald Webster Park ground in Anguilla and Windsor Park Stadium in Dominica which were damaged by the Hurricanes Irma and Maria last year.

This is the first time that a Nepali player has been selected in the World XI team.

Lamichhane is the first cricketer from Nepal to feature in an Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise when Delhi Dardevils bought the 17-year-old leg-spinner for a base price of INR 2 million (Rs 3.2 million).

Lamichhane had played a match against Marylebone Cricket Club of England from the Nepali national team in July, 2016. He claimed one wicket in the match.

Nepal are set to compete in a T20 triangular series against the Netherlands and MMC at Lord’s in July.

In his ILP debut on May 12, Lamichanne put on a brilliant performance for Delhi Daredevils claiming a wicket and giving just 25 runs from his four overs against Royal Challengers Bangalore. His side Delhi, however, lost the match against Bangalore by 5 wickets.
